Ruth Allen

Died in the 15th Ward,
Salt Lake City, of paralysis, February 8th, 1881, soon after 2 a.m., RUTH
ALLEN, wife of Joseph Pollard, Bishop of the 15th Ward. Born January 23rd, 1817 at Patter
Docks, Pembrokeshire, South
Wales? baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of
Latter-day Saints in Liverpool, England, by Elder John Taylor, in 1840, and
emigrated to America in 1849. She remained in St. Louis and Council
Bluffs until 1860, when she came to Utah with Elder Martendale’s
company, and arrived in this city, where she continued to reside until her
demise. She lived and died faithful to the gospel.
Funeral services were held in the 15th Ward
meeting house, when the congregation was addressed by President Angus M. Cannon
and Elder David Evans. Her remains were followed to their last resting
place by many relatives and friends.

Ruth Allen, daughter of John Allen and Martha
Isaac was born in January 1817 at Pater (Pembroke Dock), Pembrokeshire.
Endowment records show she was baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of
Latter-day Saints in 1840 at Liverpool, England by Elder John Taylor. Her
father, John was the brother of Elenor Allen Obray of Pembroke Dock.
Ruth married John Edward Reeves at Liverpool
on 21 April 1846 and emigrated to America in 1849.
She remained in St. Louis and Council Bluffs for a number of years.
In 1860, Ruth was living at Council Bluffs, Iowa with her children,
Charlotte and Mary. Her husband, John Edward was not in the household.
The following year, she and the children traveled with the Milo Andrus
Emigrating Company to Utah. They left Florence, Nebraska 1 July 1861 and
arrived in the Salt Lake Valley that September.
On 30 May 1863, Ruth married Joseph Pollard at
Salt Lake City.
