Mary Ann came to America on board the "Amazon" with her mother Catherine Prosser Griffiths, her sister Jane (age 7), and her baby brother Evan. Her father may have preceded the family to prepare for their arrival.

Her marriage to John Thomas Evans (born 1840 in Pembrokeshire) in 1876 at Adamsville was following the death of John's first wife Mary Perkins Evans in Ogden, Weber County, Utah, on 24 February 1875. Mary was one of 15 children born to William and Jane Mathews Perkins from Swansea. Her brother Benjamin Perkins led the "Hole in the Rock" expedition in Southern Utah.

Mary Ann Griffiths Evans' death at age 26 suggests complications with childbirth.
