Hannah's mother Margaret Davis died when Hannah was just two years old. Her father Daniel William Thomas then married Mary Lewis Jones. Thus when Hannah came to America in 1852 on board the "Ellen Maria" she was with her father, her stepmother, her older brother David, and her two stepbrothers Henry and Dan.

Her maternal grandparents Daniel and Sarah Thomas Davis came to America on the "Buena Vista" in 1849. Their daughters Ann, Sarah, Mary, Diana, and their son Daniel were with them. Their daughter Lettice, her husband Benjamin Thomas, and their son Daniel were also on the same ship.

Benjamin Thomas was the younger brother of Daniel William Thomas whose first wife was Margaret, the oldest daughter of Daniel and Sarah Thomas Davis. Thus it was a case of brothers marrying sisters.

Hannah's maternal grandmother Sarah Thomas Davis had an older sister and a younger brother who also converted to the Church.
