Margaret died on 5 September 1858 in Caseyville, St. Clair, Illinois, about two years after the birth of Sarah Jane, the daughter born in Pottsville, Pennsylvania. After Margaret’s death, James gave their seven children to her brother, William Jones, to be raised in Zion and returned to Wales alone.
