The 1841 Census shows Benjamin and Jane Jones living on "Forge Row" in the village of Cwmaman adjacent to the town of Aberdare. The pictures of Forge Row were taken in August 2003 by Tyler Arnold. It has not been determined which of the several houses was the residence of Benjamin and Jane and their family.

The pictures of Benjamin and Jane were apparently taken in Merthyr Tydfil prior to their departure on the "Buena Vista" in 1849. On the back of each one is this information: "Harris & Co., Portrait Painters and Photographers, 88 High Street, Merthyr , S. W."

Benjamin and Jane were passengers #187 and #188 on the "Buena Vista". Their daughter Elizabeth was #195. Their son William was #192. Their son John was #198. Their son Evan was #196.

Benjamin and Jane's daughter Mary was born in a wagon on their way west.
