The cane was one of several made from the coffin that carried the Prophet Joseph Smith from Carthage to Nauvoo following the Martyrdom. The metal band just below the knob bears this inscription: "I saw this cane drink the blood of the prophet Joseph". The metal on the knob has many fancy designs and the words "Capt. Jones".
