I

"19 May 1942:

My Grandfather my Father's Father, was John Thomas. He was born and died in So. Wales, Great Britain. My Grandmother, my Father's Mother, was Mary Coslet Thomas, wife of John Thomas. My Father Thomas Coslot Thomas, being one of twenty-one children, born of this union. She was born and also died in So. Wales, G.B. at the ripe old age of 105 years. She was only a small woman of' five feet. My Father Thomas C. Thomas was the only one to come to America.

My Grandfather, my Mother's Father was John Phillips, he was an iron moulder, also a Sea Captain. He was born and also died in So. Wales, G.B.

My Grandmother, my Mother's Mother, was Sophia Thomas Phillips, wife of John Phillips. Ten children were born unto this union; one of whom was my Mother; she was born in Llannelly, So. Wales, G.B. Dec. 18, 1805. She emmigrated with the Mormons to Salt Lake City, Utah bout 1867, lived there until she died on 26 June 1895, at the ripe old age of almost 90 years.

My Father, Thomas Coslet Thomas the eon or John and Mary Coslet Thomas; was a poet; he could write both English and Welsh poetry and prose. His Bardic title was Glaswlyn. (Meaning  Blue bush). He was a weaver of cloth, by trade. He was born in Llandeusant, So. Wales, G.B. 21 Feb. 1840, and emmigrated to the United States when about 21 years of age. He settled in new York on The Hudson River, where he met and because a fast and fellow worker, outting ice along The Hudson, with Thos. A. Edison, the Inventor. Later he came West and settled in Salt Lake City, Utah, where he was employeed at his trade of weaving in the woolen mills of Utah with Pres. Brigham Young.

There he met and married . Alice Powell Rowlands in 1870. But his wife died later of childbirth, the baby died also.

He later met and married Miss Elizabeth Phillips, my Mother, at Salt Lake City, Utah, In 1872, by whom he had seven children, three sons and four daughters. Three daughters died at birth. The surviving children are:- Daniel Phillips Thomas; John Phillips Thomas; Sophia Phillips Thomas; and Coslet Phillips Thomas. My Father Thomas C. Thomas lost my Mother in death in 1893. He later married Mrs. Mary Skinner in 1896, in Provo Utah and was later divorced from her at Provo, Utah. No children of this marriage. My Father then lived alone on his little farm in Provo. Three years later he died of pneumonia, on 16 Jan. 1908, at age 68 yrs. excepting one month.

My Mother, Elizabeth Phillips Thomas, the daughter of John and Sophia Thomas Phillips and the wife of Thomas Coslet Thomas, the mother also of Daniel p.; John P.; and Coslet P. and three daughters who died at birth. She was born 4 Jan. 1844 atLlannelly[sic], So. Wales, G.B. and emmigrated to Utah in 1872. Where she met and married my Father. Thomas C. Thomas. My Mother's Uncle, My Grandmother's brother (an engineer) whose name was Daniel Thomas, was born in Llannelly, So. Wales, G.B. There he met and married Catherine, (Daniels, not sure of her last name). Don't remember her maiden name. They had lived several years together but no children. In I89I he died from a mine accident, by being almost blown to pieces by a mine accident, with giant powder with which he was working. Both eyes were blown out, both hands and both feet were blown off, yet he lived to die in a Salt Lake hospital, his remaining body being horribly mutilated. He actually lived for two weeks in this terrible condition. Some time after his death Catherine married again, a man named Marridith, but was widowed again in two years by his death. Catherine died about 1902 at a ripe old age.
