Thomas, John (9) - Journal - Thomas B. Cardon

APPENDIX

Thomas Bartelemy Cardon: "Thomas B. Cardon was one of the Valley's leading businessmen- owning a hotel, a photo studio, and a jewelry store. He was Italian, and came to Utah with his parents, Waldensian converts. He joined the army at Camp Floyd and later fought in the War Between the States on the Federal side. After the war he came to Logan to visit his parents, later joining the Mormon Church. He died in Logan in 1898 after having served many positions in Logan City government. His granddaughter was Mrs. Calvin Rampton, First Lady of Utah for 12 years." (Letter of A.J. Simmonds, Curator, Special Collections & Archives, Utah State University Library, Logan, Utah, to Robert Thomas Baer, dated January 14, 1991.) Cardon had three wives, the last of which, Ella Hinckley, he married June 24, 1885, in the Logan Temple. He was arrested for unlawful cohabitation on October 6, 1886, but was never convicted of the crime. (Letter dated October 7, 1886, to Ella Hinckley Cardon from "L", apparently Cardon's first wife, Lucy Smith Cardon.)
