[At this point in the journal
there is an hiatus. No pages are missing, and JT does not comment on
failing to keep a record for two months. It is assumed that he misplaced
his journal temporarily, kept his record in a fifth journal in the meantime,
and then returned to this volume when it appeared again. His habit of
making a daily entry since September, 1886, would certainly not have lapsed,
only to resume November 1, 1888, without a comment. But, we do not know
that a fifth journal actually exists. RTB]
