ELIZABETH
GRIFFITH DAVIS
Elizabeth Griffith was born on 11 April 1842 at Machynlleth, Montgomeryshire, Wales.
She emigrated from Wales
with her parents and then crossed the plains with the pioneers settling in Salt Lake City, Utah.
She was a tall woman with dark brown hair and blue eyes. She met
and married David Price Davis in Salt
Lake City, Utah. They
were married in the Endowment House. They lived there for a short time before
moving to Malad
Valley, Idaho. Their
first home was a two-room log cabin in Samaria,
Idaho.
She had seven children, Lucy, Maggie, Edward Henry, Owen Thomas,
William Price, Elizabeth and David Griffith. The baby, David, was only a year
old when the family moved to Gwenford near the old
grist mill.
She had an average education for those times. She had a strong
testimony of the Gospel. And always attended her church
meetings. She was patient, loving and kind. She was a good seamstress. In
the early days families did not have very much to live on and they shared with
one another.
The last eighteen months of her life she had poor health. She died
at the age of 42 on 8 September 1890. She was buried in the Samaria Cemetery.
