Mary Hodge Williams, daughter of James and Mary Hodge, was born 16 June 1833 at
Blackwood, Monmouthshire, Wales. She was one of four children.
She married William W. Williams in Wales. She had been married once before to a Samuel
Reese. It is not known how many children she had, but one son Samuel Reese, came to America
with them and was raised with the Williams family. In 1861, while they were living in Salt Lake
City, she was sealed to her husband in the Endowment House. They moved to Samaria between
May 1871 and November 1874. Their home was a two-story log home in the southwest part of
Samaria. It was here that their youngest son, Lewis, was born. It was later covered with lumber
and became a good-looking frame house.
She spent most of her time caring fro her family. She was a good housekeeper, always cooking
nice things to eat, sewing, washing and ironing, and her children always looked neat. She was a
kind, patient, and a loving woman. Everyone liked to go to her home. She helped many others
who came to Samaria after she did. She died 8 January 1894 at her home among her loved ones.
