James Henry Denning

James Henry Denning, a son of James Denning and Sarah Merrifield Denning, was born January 25, 1853, at Abersychan, Monmouth, South Wales.

He came to America with his parents and a sister, Sarah Jane, on February 28, 1853. They arrived in New Orleans on April 23, 1853. They came across the plains with Captain Jacob Gates' Company and arrived in Salt Lake City, Utah September 9, 1853. He lived with his parents in Bountiful, Utah, Logan, Utah, and Montpelier, Idaho, before coming to the Malad, Idaho area.

He was a counselor in the Bishopric of the St. John, Idaho Ward for several years.

James Henry married Rosanna Williams December 21, 1874 and married Emma Jane Celesta Squires March 22, 1883. Rosanna Williams was born October 13, 1859 at Brigham City, Utah, a daughter of John Jones and Mary Jones Williams. She died December 31, 1938 at Idaho Falls, Idaho. Emma Jane Celesta was born October 5, 1866, at Salt Lake City, Utah, to Henry Augustus and Emma Caroline Slade Squires. Her second husband was William H. Smith. She died June 3, 1947, in Ogden, Utah.

James Henry had 20 children.

He freighted by team from 1875 to 1883 and was also a farmer.

He died April 6, 1919 in Idaho Falls, Idaho, and was buried in Iona, Idaho.
