Griffiths, Alice (Lloyd) - Biography

Remarks on Alice Reese (Lloyd) Griffiths

by Phyllis Mae Griffiths Taylor

Born: 30 Oct 1846 Ycanelly, Carmarthenshire, South Wales.

Married: 7 Nov 1846 to: Thomas Griffiths a coal miner, at Carmel Aberdare, Wales.

Nine children were born to them in Wales.

Converted: 1870 to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The father left Wales, and came to Utah in about 1887, and settled in Scofield. A year later he was able to send for his eldest son Nephi Lloyd Griffiths, they built a dougout log cabin and 2 years later were able to send for the rest of the family in "Babiton"or South Wales. This same year the family was untied again in 1890. Three of the children died within the month of November, and the father - Thomas Griffiths, also died one month later. I have no record of why, but some say with the flu, I imagine the differences in climate probably was partly the cause since they were used to a warm climate, at this time the family was living in winter quarters. After the fathers death the mother moved to Provo, then to Castle Gate, then Eureka where the mother Alice Lloyd fun a combination Grocery store and boarding house for her living.

Death: 25 Jan 1926 - While living in Springville.

Known as "Grandma Reece."
