Obituary of Thomas Griffiths

 

SPRINGVILLE - Thomas Griffiths, 60, vice president of the Springville-Mapleton Fruit Growers' association and local farmer, died Thursday of a heart attack, at the family residence, 1123 East Second North street.

 

He was born at Havod, near Pont Priddle, Glamorgan Shire, South Wales, May 6, 1881, a son of Thomas and Alice Loyd Griffiths. He came with his parents to Utah in 1888. The family settled in Schofield mining district, and later lived at Castlegate and Eureka. He had lived in Springville since 1910.

 

He married Sarah Ann Rolfe in 1904 at Eureka. She died in 1923, and on September 3, 1925, he married Annie Powell Jenkins.

 

Mr. Griffiths was a member of the Springville Volunteer Firemen's association for a number of years. He was also affiliated with the I O O F lodge.

 

Surviving besides the widow, are three sons and a daughter, Thomas Griffiths of Salt Lake City; Fred and Rolfe Griffiths of Springville; Mrs. Marie Wheeler of Los Angeles; a stepson, Ray Jenkins, of Washington, D. C., and 11 grandchildren.

 

Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 2 p. m., in the Fourth L D S ward chapel, directed by Bishop Leo Robertson. Friends may call at the family residence before the services. Burial will be in the Evergreen cemetery, directed by A. Y. Wheeler and Son mortuary.
